In 1950, a French Expedition team, spearheaded by Maurice Herzog, set out to explore the rugged terrain of the North Annapurna Base Camp trekking route. Their initial aim had been to descend Dhaulagiri, but the challenges proved insurmountable. Undeterred, they shifted their focus to the formidable task of climbing Annapurna I.
The trail remained largely untouched until 1970, when a British army expedition retraced Herzog's path in pursuit of conquering Annapurna I. Concurrently, another British expedition, led by Chris Bonington, achieved success by conquering the arduous North face of the mountain.
The North Annapurna Base Camp trek stands as a testament to adventure in Nepal. Its demanding terrain and formidable obstacles have deterred all but a select few from attempting it. Skyline Treks & Expedition company offers organized expeditions for those intrepid adventurers seeking the ultimate challenge in Nepal's wilderness.
