 Makalu (8463m.) was first climbed by a French party in 1955. is the world's 5th highest mountain at 8,463m. Situated between Everest and Kanchanjunga, on the Nepali-Tibetan border.  Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world, has only recently become a popular mountain to climb. It is known to be one of the easer of the world's fourteen 8,000 meter mountain. Cho Oyu sits on both sides of the border of Nepal and Tibet, about 30 km. west of Mount Everest. It is the sixth highest mountain in the world (8201 meters).  Kanchenjunga is the third-tallest mountain in the world after Mt. Everest and Mt. K2. Kanchenjunga is situated in eastern part of Nepal at 8598m. It was first climbed by a British team in 1956.  Manaslu was first climbed in 1956 by a japanese expedition. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word Manasa, meaning 'intellect' or 'soul'. This is the same word that is the root of the name of the holy lake Manasarover near Mt kailas in Tibet. Just as the British considered Everest to be there mountain, Manaslu has always been a 'Japanese' mountain.  Annapurna is a Sanskrit word which when broken down, would mean, "Sustenance" and "filled with". So the name would translate into "The Goddess rich in Sustenance" or simply "The Provider".  The Mt. Pumori Base camp can be reached Kathmandu – Lukla flight and trekking via Namche Bazaar, Thangboche – Pheriche and Lobuche. Mt. Pumori is 7145m. high and ascent starts at 5,300m; which is beside a beautiful small lake from here you can get a beautiful sight of Mt. Everest and Kalapthar at 5545m.

 One of the good-looking trekking route in Annapurna Area, "Mardi Himal" is truly adventurous for trekking peak climbing which lies less than 15 miles from Pokhara and is the most southerly peak of the Annapurna range. It is the lowest and the least climbed or visited peak. The Himlung Himal is situated in the Manaslu region, which is considered one of the remote corner of Nepal and Tibet boarder. This mountain has been becoming popular day by day to the climbers on these present days.
The Nepalese Gov. opened it’s climbing permits only after 1992. Since it’s opening only 3 teams have been succeeded to climb on the top of this mountain. Among them 1 team was the Japanese and the other to were the French..more........ |
