Completely unspoiled it includes some of the most varied and rewarding trekking in the kingdom, through an area between the Dorandi Khola and Buri Gandaki. Starting from the old capital of Gorkha, our route climbs atop a hill overlooking the snowy peaks of the Himalaya and where the old royal palace known as Gorkha Durbar towers the bazar. Descending through terraced fields we pass by Khanchok and we climb across forested area to our highest point at Darchye (3220m) : from that place we have a superb panorama of more than twenty high peaks such as Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, Buddha Himal, Himalchuli and Manaslu.
Pokhara is one of the main tourism centers in Nepal. The city is located in a subtropical valley dotted with lakes. The Annapurna range is at a distance of 30 to 40 kilometers away provides a stunning backdrop. The proximity to the snow-covered mountains and the gentle and picturesque landscape at its feet have contributed to Pokhara’s growing popularity with travelers. The magnificent scenery is filled with charming villages and surprisingly abundant forests. The good trails are old but are still heavily used as mule paths. They lead through fields, and over forested hills and mountain ridges that invite one to indulge in the spectacular views of the Annapurna massif.
Baidam on the Phewa Tal lake is the true center of Pokhara’s tourism
activities. The region achieved fame for its mild climate, its lakes
and beautiful mountain scenery. Machhapuchhare, 6997 m, a mountain known
for its shape as a fishtail, exudes a particularly strong magical effect
on locals and travelers alike.
This is an easy trek providing a wonderful insight into Nepalese rural life with few uphill climbs of any significance. There are many alternative routes going west. A northern route provides a trek close to the mountains of Manaslu (7945 m.), Himalchuli, Buddha Himal (6674 m.) with a side trip to Baraha Pokhari, a fine high-altitude lake. The more direct southern route to Pokhara allows a visit to the ancient town of Gorkha with its large Bazaar. This route attracts novice trekkers and walkers and nature lovers because of its lower altitude although their are some very good views of the Himalayas without actually having to ascend into them.
