Helambu trek is short and easy trek have Nepal and easily access from Kathmandu. Helambu offer many Monastery visit, Rhododendron forest (flower; March/April), superb mountain views, picturesque Sherpa settlements, friendly people and after all unspoiled culture of the area. This trek is more like cultural trek than mountain and glacier expeditions.Our trek starts from Kathmandu after driving by bus/car to Sundarijal, which is just 13km from Kathmandu. We then continue ascend to Chisopani where we spend first night just outside valley. Chisopani offer great view of mountain and landscape. Then we make almost a circle going through Khtumsang, Tharapati, Tarkeghyang, Sermathang and finally to Melamchi pul where we take bus or private vehicle to Kathmandu.
Helambu trek offers possibility of getting touch with people of west to east Himalaya and create diverse interest and enthusiasm towards nature. Helambu trek come pass across a settlement inhabited by friendly Sherpas. Believing in Buddhist religion these Sherpas culture, dress and language differs as of Sherpas from Solakhumbu; and their standard of living is virtually untouched by the modern world. Gosai Kunda at 4300 has mythical story enriching Hindu legend, religion and tradition. Hindus every year visit Gosai Kunda to worship there to homage to Lord Shiva (god believed as Universe). Additionally, Helambu trekking trail passes through the second largest conserved National Park of Nepal enriched by 1000 species of flora and 150 different species of birds and many wild animals such as Tigers, beers, deer, Wild sheep.
This trek is an easy and enjoyable trip conducted at the average altitude of 3500m. The trek takes you through Thadepati to Tarke Gyang, where a choice of trails opens up. However we go along the south ridge through Sermathang, down to the river at Melamchi, the site of a mega project to bring drinking water to Kathmandu via a series of tunnels, finally the trek concludes with a drive down to Kathmandu via Melamchi Bazaar through Panchkhal.
