Considered one of the most challenging
treks in Nepal, the Manaslu Circuit will reward the adventurous with
an unparalleled alpine experience. The Manaslu base camp trek is very
scenic trek & offers superb views from the ridges that lie southwest
of the world's eighth highest peak Manaslu. Few other trekkers walk
these trails, lending the route a pioneering feel that once drew visitors
to the better known regions of Everest and Annapurna.
From the trailhead at Phalesangu/ Archalbot Village we climb steadily
through the paddies and terraces of Gurung villages to the Tamang community
of Phurano Dobar, where C.A.N. has helped the villagers install a clean
water system for the whole area. Typical of the Tamang's b cultural
identity is the local women's group, who may dance and sing for us in
the evening. Continuing up the ridge, through forests of rhododendron,
we arrive at the Baraha Pokhari lakes, believed by Nepalese witch doctors
to be a place of special power. Above the tree-line, we are treated
to a superb vista of Himalayan peaks stretching from the Annapurnas
in the west across mighty Manaslu to the Langtang Himal in the east.
Our ridge leads to 7540m Himal Chuli and we will follow it to the height
of 4200m. If you extend the trip two days longer we camp at 4334m though
those who are fit enough have the option to continue to 4719m. Winding
along the contour line through forests that open up periodically to
give further views, we arrive at Nam Pokhari from where we drop to the
valley floor weaving among the terraces, farms and rice paddies that
are typical of the middle hill country of Nepal. We then continue trek
via Ghan Pokhara and finally finish our trek at Begnas Lake.
Manaslu Base Camp trekking, can be started from two three places, but simply the Manaslu trekking starts from Trisuli Bazar to Budhi Gandaki passing through huge extremely steep valleys to the contrasting world of Sama, crossing the snow covered Larkya La Pass, and descending to Marsyangdi Khola. Larke La Pass in Manaslu trekking area is taken as a technical place.
Fitness & Experience:
The trek is well-paced but with some steep ascents
and descents, the fitter you are the more enjoyable the experience will
be. Previous trekking experience is not necessary. Average hiking per
day in Baraha Pokhari will be 6-7 hrs.
