Lower Dolpo Trek - Trekking through the trails of ‘Lower Dolpo’ is your chance for a tête-à-tête with remote Himalayan Mountains and a local culture that has protected its originality since ages. The region is beautifully captured in Nepal’s first Oscar nominated movie ‘Caravan’ and thanks to a reportage of National Geography fame Eric Valli, the trekking in lower part of Dolpo has received a lot of accolades for the divine beauty this mighty region has to offer.
Apart from staring at the deep and beautiful ‘Shey-Phoksundo’ lake with turquoise blue water, you also have plenty of chances to watch the yak caravans that keep up the traditional salt trade with Tibet. Best suited for adventurers seeking for an off-the-beaten path experience, you get to pass through the high altitude tundra and rocks and the microclimate of Lower Dolpo and Phoksundo with the cold air of the glaciers of Kanjiroba.
The Lower Dolpo Trek is considered moderately difficult to challenging. This trek takes you through remote and rugged terrain in western Nepal, often at high altitudes, with passes reaching over 5,000 meters. The region's isolation means limited facilities and basic accommodation, requiring a high level of self-sufficiency and endurance. The trek involves long days of walking on steep and rocky trails, making it suitable for experienced trekkers with good physical fitness and mental resilience. The rewards are immense, with stunning landscapes, unique culture, and the pristine beauty of Shey Phoksundo Lake.
The cost for the Lower Dolpo trek varies depending on the number of people in the group. Here's a breakdown:
Number of Pax | Cost per Person (USD) |
---|---|
2 | $3990 |
3 | $3900 |
4 to 6 | $3800 |
7 to 10 | $3700 |

Lower Dolpo Trek
10th October, 2024
Visiting ancient Bon monasteries added a spiritual dimension to the trek. The serenity of the area made it feel like a pilgrimage as much as a trek.
