Tibet Overland Tour Via Kerong Border travelling by land from Kathmandu to Kerong makes up a fabulous journey, that’s sure to create some of the best memories to last a lifetime. From enjoying the views of the world’s highest mountains, to travelling through the world’s highest plains, the tour gets more adventurous with each passing time. Actually seriously adventurous, as you may also have to do without proper accommodation and amenities! It certainly isn’t easy to make it to Tibet but it’s definitely worth the effort. Tibet was only opened to tourist sin 1985, to save the unique culture and religion far from the influence of the outer world. The infrastructure of the tourist industry is still very basic in this remote country. Please do not expect the standard you are accustomed to in the west. Having said that, we at Skyline give it our best effort to ensure a smooth and pleasant trip departure!
The tour starts from Kantipath Thamel at 05:00 AM, as you report, you are set to start your journey to the Kerung border. An early start is made on the first day as china time is 02:00 hrs 15 minutes ahead of Nepal time in winter & 03:00 hrs 15 minutes in summer. After completing immigration formalities on the Nepal side, we drive uphill to Tingri [30 kms/1 hr]-from the immigration post. It’s where you are greeted by our friendly Tibetan guide, who will take care of your entire tour arrangement.

Day 01: Kathmandu (1300) -Kerung Border (145 Km) 06-07 hours drive
Day 02: Kerung - Tingri (4300m) / Lhatse (4,350m): 225 Km/244 Km
Day 03: Tingri/Lhaste - Xigatse (3,900 M): 244 Km
Day 04: Xigatse - Gyantse (3,950m): 90 Km
Day 05: Gyantse - Lhasa (3,650m): 261 Km

Early in the morning scenic drive to Kerung Border (Nepal-Tibet Border) through the beautiful Nepalese countryside and after necessary border formalities at Nepalese immigration, an hour adventurous uphill drive by Bus & Van (normally) or 2 hour walks uphill (in case of landslide to Chinese immigration, check-in to hotel or Continue drive to Kerung. Stay overnight at Guest House.
Day drive uphill to the highest plateau of the world with the typical view of Tibetan landscape offering sheer feeling of standing on the roof of the world. from where, weather permitting, breathtaking panorama of beautiful Himalayan ranges including Mt Cho Oyu (8201 M) & Mt Xishapagma (8012M) but dwarfed by the Vastness of the Tibetan plateau. From TINGRI, one can enjoy the magnificence of Mt. Everest (8,848 M). Stay overnight at Guest House
Continue scenic drive crossing Over Gyatchu La (5,220M), the highest pass en route to Lhasa via Lhatse from where a road to Mt Kailash bifurcates to the west. Stay overnight at Yak hotel.
Morning sightseeing to the Panchen Lama's Tashilhumpu Monastery. Drive to Gyantse and visit to the Kumbum Stupa & Phalkor Monastery. Full day picturesque drive crossing over Karola (5,010m), Kambala (4,749m), Colorful Yamdrok-Tso Lake and the Tibetan lifeline river Brahma Putra (Yarlung Tsangpo) – Stay overnight at Flora Hotel.
Two full days sightseeing tour to Lhasa including Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Bazaar, And Potala Palace Drepung & Sera Monasteries. Stay overnight at Hotel.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PROCEDURE TIBET GROUP VISA !!!
As per the new rules and regulations from the Chinese embassy in Nepal, to obtain a Tibet group visa, it is required that there must be a minimum of 05 people in the group. Additionally, the visa application process in Kathmandu requires the submission of the original passport and may take 04-05 official working days to complete.
Furthermore, clients who wish to obtain a Tibet group visa will need to visit the China visa application center in person to provide biometric information.
