Embarking on a Tibet Overland Tour via the Kerong Border offers an unforgettable journey from Kathmandu that promises to etch lasting memories. As you traverse the land from Kathmandu to Kerong, you'll find yourself amidst awe-inspiring vistas of the world's highest mountains and journeying through the lofty plains, each moment brimming with adventure.
The tour unfolds with a sense of exhilaration, as you immerse yourself in the unparalleled beauty of the Himalayas. However, be prepared for a truly adventurous experience, as you may find yourself foregoing the luxuries of proper accommodation and amenities along the way. Yet, despite the challenges, the journey to Tibet is undeniably rewarding, offering a glimpse into a world that was once shielded from outside influence.
Since opening its doors to tourists in 1985, Tibet has sought to preserve its unique culture and religion, untouched by the winds of modernization. As a result, the tourist infrastructure remains relatively basic in this remote land. It's essential to manage expectations and understand that the standards may differ from what one is accustomed to in the West. However, at Skyline, we strive to ensure a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for all our guests, despite the challenges posed by the rugged terrain and limited infrastructure.
The tour commences bright and early from Kantipath Thamel at 5:00 AM, recognizing the time difference between Nepal and China. With China's time being ahead by 2 hours and 15 minutes in winter and 3 hours and 15 minutes in summer, an early start ensures efficient progress. After completing immigration formalities on the Nepal side, the journey continues uphill to Tingri, located approximately 30 kilometers away, where you'll be warmly welcomed by our knowledgeable Tibetan guide, who will oversee every aspect of your tour arrangements with care and expertise.
