TIMS Permit Fee

In recognition of Nepal's status as a premier trekking destination and its burgeoning allure, the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) has been instituted to uphold the safety and security of trekkers while also regulating illegal trekking operations.

The provision for the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) was enacted on January 1, 2008. Since then, the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) have been diligently recording trekkers' particulars and issuing TIMS Cards accordingly.

Where and How to Obtain a TIMS Card?

TIMS Card permits are obtainable through Skyline Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd., a government-registered trekking agency. Our client services are available from 7 am to 8 pm, seven days a week, throughout the year.

To procure a TIMS Card, you will require a copy of your passport and two passport-size photographs.

Why is a TIMS Card Necessary for Trekking?

The TIMS Card ensures that all pertinent details concerning trekkers and trekking routes are stored in a computerized Database Management System, enhancing trekker safety and security. It facilitates search and rescue operations during natural disasters and other emergencies by providing authentic information services. Additionally, it maintains a comprehensive record system encompassing trekkers' personal details, trekking areas, handling agencies, duration, etc. The data derived from this system proves invaluable to various stakeholders, including tourism organizations, government agencies, diplomatic missions, tour operators, and research institutes.

The implementation of TIMS also serves to regulate unauthorized trekking operations, thereby enhancing the overall management of trekking services. This not only benefits trekkers and field staff but also trekking companies and government agencies. Furthermore, it aids in the prevention of occasional untoward incidents. TIMS is instrumental in elevating service standards and fostering better management of sustainable mountain tourism development in Nepal.

TIMS Will Not be Required for:

  • Expedition members authorized to climb mountains.
  • Visitors in controlled areas holding permits issued by the Department of Immigration.
  • Foreign guests invited by the Government of Nepal.
  • Authorities from various diplomatic missions in possession of official letters and traveling at their own risk.
  • Visitors on specific missions recommended by concerned governmental departments.
  • Foreign nationals possessing residential visas.
