Where is Nepal?

Nepal, a sovereign Independent Kingdom, lies between 80 degree 12' east longitude and 26 degree 22' and 30 degree 27' north latitude. It is bounded on the north by the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China; on the east by Sikkim and West Bengal of the Indian Union on the south by Indian States of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and on the west by Uttar Pradesh of Indian Union. The length of the Kingdom is 885 kilometers east-west and its breath varies from 145 to 241 kilometers north-south. Climatically, it lies in the temperate zone with the added advantage of altitude.

Why is Nepal such a fascinating country for many people?

The Himalayan kingdom of Nepal is a land of scenic mountains, time-worn temples and some of the best walking trails on Earth. It's a small country, but it's rich in scenic splendor and exotic cultures. The people of Nepal are as diverse as their country and represent distinct cultures and races.

Though they speak a variety of tongues and practice different religions, they are the friendliest people that you would ever meet. The kingdom has long exerted a pull on the Western imagination and it's a difficult place to dislodge from your memory once you return. So, wait until you're actually here in Nepal.

As a traveler, there is endless number of surprises Nepal has to offer you. Kathmandu Valley with its thousands of Hindu temples, Buddhist stupas, stunning architecture and rich pageantry can be quite beyond words. If you are careful enough not to get entangled in the superficial facade of a flatly "modernizing" capital city, Kathmandu probably offers you as exotic and urban experience as you can get.

Beyond Kathmandu, it’s another world altogether. Most travelers to Nepal want to check out the truly spectacular Himalayas along with the higher hills. A few go there to scale the high mountains, but many are nature lovers who trek along landscapes filled with deep valleys, lush forests, snow trails, terraced fields, and above all, the most hospitable people.

Travelers to Nepal also love making a safari trip to one of the National Parks in Nepal. The most popular one is the Chitwan National Park in the southern plains which hosts a diverse wildlife reserves including the rare Asian one-horn rhino.

Do I need a visa to travel to Nepal?

All foreign nationals, except Indian Citizens, need visas to enter Nepal.

What do I need to get my visa?

You need a valid passport, two passport size photos and US$ in cash.

Where do I apply to get my visa?

The best way to apply for visa is from the Nepalese diplomatic missions in your home country. The other choice is to get it from Immigration office upon your arrival day at the entry points of Nepal.

What if I decided to stay more than 60 days in Nepal? Where and what should I do to extend my Tourist Visa?

There's no problem in it. The Immigration Department of Kathmandu or Pokhara can extend the visa for another 30 days and the charge for this is US$ 50. Indeed the visa can be extended for a total of 120 days, an additional 30 days visa may be granted on reasonable grounds from the Immigration Office. Nevertheless, a tourist cannot stay in Nepal under tourist-visa for more than 150 cumulative days.

How to Enter Nepal?

In order to fly directly to Nepal from your home country, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu is the only international airport in Nepal. TIA has direct air link with Osaka, Shanghai, London, Frankfurt, Hongkong, Singapore, Bangkok, Delhi, Dubai, Bombay and Calcutta. Lufthansa, Nepal Airlines (NAC), Air India, Singapore Airlines, Thai are the airlines that carry most of the foreign travelers into Kathmandu; and if you buy tickets from any other airlines, you will probably connect with one of these airlines for the final leg of your flight. Alternatively, if you have time and enthusiasm, traveling overland to Nepal via India is an option.

When is the best time to travel in Nepal?

The weather is probably the best guide for deciding when to plan your trip to Nepal. The best time to visit Nepal is between September to November and March to May.

Nepal does not require any specific immunization for visitors. It is however best to have vaccine before coming to Nepal. Your doctors can advice you on the type of vaccine to be taken to travel to third world countries like Nepal.

What about getting to Nepal from Tibet?

The crossing between Nepal and Tibet via Kodari is only open to organized groups but not to individual travelers heading north. Be prepared with alternative plans if you're thinking about using this route, because landslides regularly make it impassable during the monsoon.

I recently did some trip in Nepal through the most conscientious company “The Skyline treks and expedition” and their Team and had a breathtaking experience. My daughter and I were extremely contented with the genial and practiced concentration that was given to us. Greet and meet with a garland of flower at airport to hotel transfer was incredibly app laudable and the sightseeing activities around the city of Kathmandu were tremendously enjoyable. The trek to Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar was the best part of our trip. Our professional guide and dutiful porter were remarkable. From the first meet at Nepal airport to end-to-end of the Everest base camp trek, we were taken best care like family. We would like to thank Madhav; the managing director of the company for such stellar arrangement for the Everest base camp and Kalapatthar trek. We would greatly suggest Skyline treks and the Team to anyone from around the globe who seeks for an incomparable nature-loving trip in Nepal.

EBC Trek

I stumbled upon Skyline Treks on one of the Hiking forums. Boy am I glad I did. Everything was effortless with these guys, the planning and execution. Mr. Madhav who owns the agency is always prompt to reply to emails, messages and calls and goes out of his way to make his guests feel welcome, loved and well taken care off. I can't compliment enough my guide Lakpa, a general soul who is eager with his hospitality, accommodating and always ready to take on challenges on the trail if you are. It was like having a friend, guide and assistant all wrapped into one.

You cannot go wrong with these guys. Professional, value for money service with a true inclination to make customers happy. I highly recommend them. If it's hiking / trekking in Nepal that you are looking at don't look any further.

Trek to Everest basecamp

A couple of months ago my friend and i decided to go on the beautiful trek to Everest BC, and through friends we were set up with Skyline Treks. And i am so glad we were, our every wish was fulfilled! Even when we kind of last minute wanted to change the dates a little bit, it was no problem at all! Madhav is a great manager, a great problem solver.

On our trek we had the amazing Sanjay for our guide, and we were so lucky to have him. He has an answer to every question! And as i can count, he knows at least Four languages :D On our last day before reaching basecamp, i was literally doubting that we would make it, but thanks to him, we did it. As he says; "Slow and steady"

Everest Base Camp: An experience of a lifetime

EBC was literally my first big trekking, and before going there I always had doubts and concerns about whether or not I'll be able to make it to the base of the camp. But, Mr. Madhav from the Skyline was very encouraging, and gave me good advice beforehand.

He was also able to work out with me and gave me the best value that suited my itinerary. He provided me an excellent guide, Gokarna! He was very knowledgeable and friendly.

He became more than a guide and truly cared as a friend. I had a great time and fun doing this journey with him. I enjoyed the beauty and magnificence of the Himalayas and its people. This was an experience of a lifetime and you'll definitely love this journey! I highly recommend doing this with them.

EBC and Kala Patthar

I don't think words will be enough to describe how amazing this trek was.
Starting from Madhav answering every one of my emails right away, having everythingarranged for me by the time I arrived at the airport.
I hope you're lucky as me and get to go with Dheeraz and Gokarna as guide and porter.

They made me feel not only taken care of all the time but also as a friend.
Comparing to other people I met on the way, the money/value for the tour was the best so I would recommend it 100%. The lodges I stayed at and the whole service I received was amazing, while for others the situation was different for the places they had to stay at were not as ideal and the guides can sometimes be not as friendly as you would expect.

I had the opportunity to see the mountains, the places, understand a little bit of the local life and meet local people - even tried the best local momo at Namche. The whole trip was a lot more than I ever thought it could be.

I'll be forever thankful to Skyline for making my trip an amazing experience, specially since I was travelling alone and was a little bit skeptic about it all.
By the way, the farewell dinner is amazing!!!!!

Great company, flexible and friendly

I did a trek with Skyline in November. I was supposed to do the Everest View Trek but ended up with a reduced stay in Nepal as I extended my stay in a previous destination. Skyline were very helpful and very flexible and made it work so I could get as close to Everest as possible with only 8 days available.

My guide, Sanjay, was friendly and helpful and the porter who carried my bag was great too.

Madhav, the owner was always on hand if I needed anything, before, during and after the trek! I was a solo traveler and felt safe and looked after. Thank you to you all so much for making my time in Nepal great!

Treating clients as guests and not customers

I chose to go with Skyline for my Everest Base Camp trek after a strong recommendation from a friend. The entire team right from owner Mr. Madhav to our guides were very cordial and helpful. Right from paperwork,to airport pick-up to all the intricacies during the trip were taken care of.I would especially like to mention and recommend my guide Sanjay Chapagain who visited me one day before the trip and helped me shop necessary stuff for the trek.

He had a good knowledge of the entire route and was always informative all the way telling about all the peaks and points on the way.

On my way back I had serious health issue and he was very helpful in getting me out of there with help from Mr. Madhav, who ran all the errands in Kathmandu.

Everest Base Camp May/June 2016

In researching our trip to Everest Base Camp we chose to go with Skyline Treks out of Kathmandu. The owner Madhav Pandey was always prompt in answering our questions around the logistics of the trip as well as the day to day details such as what gear is needed and what to expect. There were many trekking companies to chose from and felt the most confident based on the reviews and his promptness.

We booked with Skyline and the trip turned out to be fantastic. It was a college graduation trip for my daughter and I. Madhav met us at the airport with a car/driver and took us to our hotel where we met the guide (Sherpa). Our sherpa was Nima and were very pleased with his knowledge of the mountain, the tea houses and the route. Myself being an old guy with two other mid-20's trekkers, he made me feel like I wasn't the slow guy. We found out that our trek with Nima Sherpa was his 85th trip to EBC. Now that is experience. Other trekkers on the mountain chose to go it alone without the assistance of a Sherpa and they often had to ask directions or took a wrong route that ended up being longer or harder. Book with an experience guide so that you can enjoy your trip.

Our porter "BB" was a delight to have on the journey. He always was smiling and engaging during the evening in the tea houses. I would highly recommend booking with Skyline and if you do, ask for Nima as the Sherpa and BB as the guide. You will be glad you did.

My second adventure with Skyline Treks

I contacted again Madhav Pandey directly on Facebook to book my second trek in Nepal after the 1st one I did in the Annapurna in 2014.
This one was a trek to Everest Base Camp for 2 weeks.

Everything was great and well organised. Overall I had another amazing experience in Nepal.

I recommend the guide Nigma Sherpa. This English-speaking sherpa will do everything he can to make your ascension to base camp the best way possible. He was definitely my highlight during my 15 days in Nepal. He will give you advice to be safe, healthy and he will keep you in good spirit. I couldn't have been more happy to have him as my sherpa.

Maybe their website should be refreshed with a new design but don't worry you are in good and serious hands. You are also dealing only with Nepalese which is a good thing considering their global economy.

Succeeded Everest base camp and Kalapathar trek batch in July 2010

The trek experience up to the bottom of world’s highest mountain was as expected admirable and the hike to Kalapathar at 5,545 meters in the frosty morning was not an easy task but me with my some friends were highly motivated by our trek guide Dheeraz C and if he was not with us even we can’t imagine this high altitude trek.

Enjoyed every bit of this trek, what a gifted team of Skyline treks, I always remember them in my prayers. I highly praise their compassion. Cheers!!!
