Island Peak Climbing is a mountain in the Himalayas of eastern Nepal lying at an altitude of 6,189 meters. The peak was named Imja Tse better known as Island Peak in 1951 by Eric Shipton's party since it seems as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. The peak was later renamed in 1983 to Imja Tse but Island Peak remains the popular choice. The peak is actually an extension of the ridge coming down off the south end of Lhotse Shar. Island Peak (Imja Tse) summit was first climbed in 1956 by a Swiss team as a training exercise in preparation for Mount Everest and Lhotse.

Island Peak Climbing

Imja Tse peak climbing is one of the most popular trekking peaks given its difficulty (alpine PD+) and accessibility especially when supported by an experienced trekking agency. We approach towards Island peak from Lukla and commence trek slowly up the Dudh Kosi valley. After a few days we branch off to Gokyo, and after climbing Gokyo Ri for fantastic views of Cho Oyu and Everest we cross the Cho La and descend to Dingboche to prepare for the ascent of Island Peak climb. The climb to the summit is somewhat difficult due to steep climbing. On top, while Mount Everest is a mere ten kilometers away to the north, the view will be blocked by the massive wall of Lhotse, towering 2,300 m (7,500 ft) above the summit.

Island Peak Climbing

(5/5)

The island peak climbing was mixed bag of difficulties, energizing, exciting and contemplative experiences for me. The adventurous with formidable routes of island peak that guided me to find triumph at its highest point of 6,189 was challenging and humbling.

But this all was nothing due to the contribution, devotion and high concerned by Skyline treks and expedition. What an outstanding arrangement by the peak climbing leader (Mr. Madhav pandey) and kudos from my heart to my Sherpa climbing guide (Tenzi Sherpa) without whom the island peak climbing would fly out of the window.

Our entire team eternally advises for Skyline treks and team. We urge for your growing business.
